In early June, when the apple trees usually drop extra ovaries, young beetles of the apple beetle leaves. They will already eat leaves – there will be small holes in the leaves. They will not eat many leaves. Apple’s flower beetle has already done its dirty work. After two weeks, the bugs stop eating altogether, they remain on the tree until the fall, hide in bark cracks, hollows. In the fall they leave for the winter. Beetles of the apple flower bee hibernate under the scales of the bark, under the fallen leaves, in the upper layer of soil near the stem. They sleep until next spring when warm sunlight will fall on the trunk of the apple tree to repeat the whole cycle.
In small quantities, apple blossoms are acceptable on an apple tree, because it regulates the number of ovaries. It just physically helps us reduce the number of ovaries on the apple tree. Then it will be easier for the apple tree to grow the remaining apples, and therefore they will be larger, and there will be fewer sores on the apple tree. Specialists in the cultivation of apple trees even called the figure – 20-30 beetles per tree – this, they believe, is a threshold value at which the flower beetles are even slightly useful.
Some Nuances to Combat Color Beetles
- It is important not to be late with the start of this very struggle. Gardeners often begin to spray trees or shake bugs on pre-lined film or paper, when they have already done their dirty work – they laid eggs in the kidneys. If an egg is laid, you can’t get it with any spray. One female can lay up to 100 eggs – 4 females per one undersized apple tree and enough. In the recommendations for control, most often the timing of the fight is indicated as “during swelling of the kidneys.” But this period can be interpreted and understood in different ways. I would better say that the fight against the flower beetle (spraying, shaking off beetles) should be started before the buds open. Snow drove away, in the afternoon the temperature rises to +8, forward, to the flower beetle! And it doesn’t matter that it freezes at night.
- If your apple trees are in the country, it means that there are a lot of apple trees in the neighboring areas, and of course, most summer residents do not fight with a flower beetle. A flower beetle, already at + 10 flies. You have sprayed your apple tree with a decay, for example, Decis, your bugs have thrown back their paws, and tomorrow the neighbors flew in… The effect will certainly be, but not the one that is needed. In this case, you can try the method in which the flower beetle will not climb and sit on your trees. Even before budding, dilute 1.5 kg of lime (preferably freshly slaked) in 10 liters. water. With this solution, spray trees abundantly and thoroughly. Twigs after such spraying will turn white, and the bee-eater will simply not even sit on them, not like laying eggs.
If you have a separate plot, then regularly (every spring, twice, before, and during their swelling) spray your garden, for example with Decis (5-10 ml per 10 liters of water). Thus, you can keep the number of color beetle at a “safe” threshold. By the way, it is advisable to alternate the type of insecticide every year. If we use only Decis for 10 years in a row, then in our garden a bug will surely appear, which will be able to eat this Decis and will definitely give the same offspring.
